Peek-a-boo blush

Rosy cheeks are no longer just a sign of shyness. Quite to the contrary, make your cheekbones stand out! But why use a blush that is so strikingly different from your skin tone? Because it helps give that natural glow. For a fresh look, apply to your cheeks, temple and at the base of the jaw. And because it’s merely imitating natural colour, this prominent blush goes with everything: subdued tints, spunky lipstick, charcoal-gray eye-shadows. Patrice Boudreau notes that “what’s most vital is that the skin always look light and fresh.”

The double take

This look will help you become an eyeliner pro. This season, a thin line of eyeliner is no longer enough. Add a line along the upper lid and, for the particularly adventurous, try a line on the inner corner of the eye. To be on the safer side, sketch the second line right above the first one, using a metallic hue. To avoid looking too harsh and overdone, Patrice Boudreau suggests illuminating the bottom inner corner of the eye or the outer side of the eyelid with a white eyeliner pencil. This will create instant glamour.

Naked splendour

Make-up is an art of pretence. This look emanates natural beauty, but is only made possible by a good makeup job. Patrice Boudreau suggests starting by applying an illuminating cream to camouflage any imperfections, which will make it easier to get a polished look. If at all possible, avoid foundation and concealer and use a sheer powder only. The makeup artist reminds us, “Don’t be afraid of applying blush, as it will help to give you a fresh and glowing look”

The metallic look

Deep down, doesn’t everybody have a soft spot for the Las Vegas lifestyle? It’s time to indulge! On-trend this fall is a
smoky eye with more bling. According to Patrice Boudreau, national makeup stylist for Clarins, you can’t go wrong with gold. By adding just the right touch, he blushes up every skin tone while (almost) never being tacky. To achieve this avant-garde look, combine two or three metal tones. The makeup artist swears by adding a thin line of black eyeliner at the base of the eyelash to avoid looking clownish. The real thing to avoid is applying light eye shadow over the curve of the eyelid: “that look is out!”
