What: A hybrid boutique wellness spa and yoga centre devoted to overall, total-body and spiritual health, located on the third floor of Toronto’s Thompson Hotel at 550 Wellington Street West.
Who: Soul (and real-life) sisters and co-founders Christine Russell and Emily Ridout opened the first
889 Yoga + Wellness Spa at 889 Yonge Street in 2007. The Wellness Spa at the Thompson launched in May 2012.
The locale: We can’t think of a more uplifting way start to the day than with an early-morning yoga
bootcamp session as sunlight streams in through the glass windows of the 889 Yoga studio at the Thompson.
Summer yoga loving: Grab your mat and head outdoors for Yoga Unplugged, free outdoor classes every Saturday to September 1 on the deck of the Thompson in partnership with Lululemon Athletica. Zen out in the hour-long sessions to the
musical stylings of different Madonna and ’70s-themed classes each week.
Spa essentials: Three signature spa treatments, 75 minutes each: The 889 Detox massage ($118), which uses different techniques to focus on lymphatic drainage, muscle relaxation, digestion, and the release of toxins; the
Jet-Lagged massage ($135) using Thai Stems and a blend of peppermint, lavender, and sandalwood for an earthy and grounding experience; and the Luxury Therapeutic Facial ($135) using Tammy Fender Skincare products, an organic skin care line based in Palm Beach, as well as soy waxing.
