Backstage at NYFW: Lacoste

First backstage stop at New York Fashion Week was Lacoste, and the model lineup didn't disappoint: Vanessa Moody, Pooja Mor, Binx Walton, Aya Jones...I could go on.  READ MORE: All the best red carpet beauty looks at TIFF

The NARS products makeup artist Diane Kendal used to get the look at Alexander Wang. It was basically just moisturizer, with spot concealing where needed. Backstage at NYFW: Alexander Wang

Redken's global creative director Guido Palau worked with the natural texture of each model's hair to give it some oopmh. They did do several haircuts, "But the thing is, I wonder if people will even notice?" Palau asked. "Because the whole vibe Alex wanted was very real – a girl who came off the street. We did 9 or 10 extreme haircuts, but they blend in with the other girls. We took this individuality thing to the max."  READ MORE: A first look at MAC's new Guo Pei collection

Backstage at NYFW: Alexander Wang

This isn't backstage, clearly – beauty editors rarely sit for shows, because the hair and makeup is done hours before. Was super excited to score a seat for Alexander Wang's 10th anniversary collection: Kylie Jenner and Tyga strolled in, Kanye West showed up with a hood on to evade photographers and Lady Gaga made an appearance. Backstage at NYFW: Carolina Herrera

The backstage area was beautiful, if small and not particularly well-lit. Romero Jennings, director of makeup artistry for M.A.C, told me that this model had a natural eyeliner-like line on her lashes (rough, I know). He thought it was makeup left over from another show and was trying to wipe it off. "There was no liner look [at this show]," he said, "so I had to bring the concealer right up under her lashes to try to hide it." READ MORE: The nail looks you need to know right now

There were only two main products used on the face at Phillip Lim: eyeliner and foundation. The models walked between huge mounds of organic earth (see next slide), so NARS makeup artist Francelle Daly kept things "real." READ MORE: The most iconic hairstyles of all time

Backstage at NYFW: 3.1 Phillip Lim

I arrived late to the Phillip Lim show (it was also his 10th anniversary collection), so I had to squeeze in behind one of the massive piles of earth the models were walking around. Loved the hair, here: Wella hairstylist Paul Hanlon made sure the texture of the hair was gritty underneath the headband to keep the look from being "too pretty." "He wanted to do something really different, he didn't want the girls to be so made up," Diane Kendal told us of the look, which included sheer foundation, a strong eyebrow, bare eye and some blush blended up into the temples. Backstage at NYFW: Zac Posen

Zac Posen won for the most beautiful backstage area. (We were in Grand Central Station.) The only con to the space – that I was aware of – was that the nail artist had to use little packets of nail polish removing wipes, instead of a bottle, to prevent spills on the historic floors. Not ideal when you're in a hurry.  READ MORE: The most modern way to do an accent nail

"It's the anti-concealer look," says Page. "It's heavy and shadowy underneath the eye." Good news for those who like to sleep in.  READ MORE: 5 contouring kits for people who can't contour

Braids – they're back! The hair was first scraped back into a ponytail ("The girls hate me because it's so tight," said Anthony Turner, hairstylist for Bumble and bumble), before being braided.
