Whether you turn ghostly pale or flat-out flushed when you are sick, you can still wear blush or bronzer. “They help bring colour to your cheeks and add definition when you are feeling bloated and puffy. And pretty rosy cheeks can take away from tired eyes,” says Stroh. Petty recommends that those who go tend to be more red, try a neutral or cool pink blush or bronzer. If you go green when you're sick, opt for brighter hues on the cheeks.   Guerlain Terracotta Healthy Glow Blush Bronzer Powder Duo ($60), at sephora.ca.   READ MORE: 15 innovative beauty products

Must-have makeup products for when you’re sick: Clean brushes

Yay, your cold is gone and you’re back to your glam self! Be sure to wash your brushes with mild shampoo, says Stroh. In fact, according to the beauty commandments, you should be doing this once a week to avoid bacteria buildup. Another rule of thumb to avoid the spread of germs: Don’t use your finger to put product on your face and then dip it back into your cream or liquid products. “Products are easily contaminated and colds and flu can be made worse by this and maybe even lengthen the duration,” says Stroh.
