Dear Susan: The guy I'm seeing was treated in the past for a gambling addiction. He is focused on school right now, but I worry that this might become a problem again. I'm also wondering how committed he is to me. Am I being a fool? Risky business.
Dear Risk business: It's perfectly natural for you to worry that his old habits could come back to haunt you and him. Don't make any hasty decisions. You first need to tell him what you're feeling and ask him to do the same. If you don't address these feelings of insecurity, they will erode your confidence in each other. Give it a go – because it's a valuable life lesson – but in the long run, I don't think you will stay with him. I see you free of self-doubt and worry and leading a new, exciting life on the West Coast.
