Listen up! Mylène Dinh-Robic dishes on her new show.

Mylène Dinh-Robic returns to the small screen to star in a sexy crime thriller.

By Amber Nasrulla

Call it ironic. Mylène Dinh-Robic was participating in general auditions at Montreal's Le Théâtre de Quat'Sous when she received a call that made her set her well-laid plans aside. It was time to pack her bags again and head to Toronto to join the cast of CTV's new prime-time drama The Listener. After five busy years in B.C., where she starred in Da Vinci's City Hall and appeared in a number of other shows, Dinh-Robic had been looking forward to returning to her hometown to work in theatre: "I specifically moved back because of my French roots; then this happened." In The Listener, she plays Olivia, an ER doctor and ex-girlfriend of Toby (Craig Olejnik), a paramedic who happens to be telepathic. Acting as a vigilante of sorts, he uses his ability to listen to people's thoughts to fight crime. "Toby leans on her for medical advice," explains Dinh-Robic. "She doesn't know about his ability, so she inadvertently helps him with the crimes he's trying to solve." When asked what superpower she'd like to possess, Dinh-Robic laughs. "It sounds voyeuristic, but I'd like to be invisible. The thrill of acting is that you get to be in someone else's shoes and sound like someone else. Hey, I guess I already spend a lot of time being invisible!"
