Floral Print Dress
This year, spring collections from the likes of Balenciaga (to the left), Prada and Marc Jacobs are taking a cue from lush spring gardens and exploding with fresh floral prints of everything from sweet poppies and carnations to elegant amaryllises and orchids. Keep your wardrobe in full bloom with a frock of fabulous flowers in bright, pretty colours.
The Cinched Waist
After a couple of seasons of voluminous fever, designers are finally cutting out the poof and bringing back the cinched waist. Trim is in, so lose that shapeless tunic and show off your killer bod with high-waisted pencil skirts like Jessica Alba (so sexy secretary!) and high-waisted trousers (so power bitch!).
Gladiator Sandals
If you missed out on the gladiator sandal last summer, not to worry, it's back and hotter than ever! Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga took them to new heights with his wacky knee-high gladiator boots, which, by the way, should never be attempted in real life. Stick to classic gladiators, or if you crave a little kick, look for metallic straps, jewels or braiding.
The White Shirt
At long last, the white shirt has been liberated from its corporate prison! No longer relegated to the world of boardrooms and job interviews, this wardrobe staple has gone from office hours to cocktail hour with a little help from sheer fabrics, some extra ruffles and a plunging neckline or two like in Zac Posen's spring collection. It's official: the white shirt is the new little black dress!
Technicoloured Handbag
This year, accessories are all about creativity, whimsy and big, bold, look-at-me colours. Handbags of all shapes and sizes from the likes of Fendi, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton are being splashed with a rainbow of electric hues that will take your handbag obsession to a whole other level.
