What's the best, most versatile summer shoe to buy for the upcoming wedding season? To help us with this question we turned to shoe expert Joanna Whitfield of Zola Shoes. Here's what she had to say.
"The wedge is hot this season and an excellent choice for outdoor summer weddings. They're great for comfort and and lawn-friendly!
Look for a wedge in a traditional metallic color like silver, gold or pewter. This Claudia Ciuti is particularly interesting as the front is clear so it is very versatile and will go with any color or dress style."
What's hot for casual spring footwear? "Flat sandals in bright colors are a must this spring like these Matera Prima in patent.
If you prefer a slightly more subdued look, try textured leather flats like these gorgeous Elisa Ferare Espadrilles are a great casual summer shoe and this season they're look has been updated with metallics and a variety of styles and heel heights.
Pare Gabia, the world's oldest espadrille designer has given us this fabulous look."
What sort of shoe would you recommend to spruce up a casual outfit? "Back to the metallics - perfect for giving your look that little extra something.
Another way to spruce up a casual outfit is with a cube heel - around 2 inches high - it's perfect for dressing an outfit up or down. These Ororo sandals are fabulous!"
I love the look of ballet flats, but I have a hard time finding ballet flats that have good arch support. I have a really high arch, and my feet tend to hurt if I don't have shoes with the right support. Do you have suggestions for designers that make ballet flats with good arch support? Ballet flats are showing their staying power this season, and there's no reason you can't have style and comfort. For advice for this ELLE Canada reader, I turned to Barbara Atkin, fashion director at Holt Renfrew. She says:
"The problem with true ballet flats is that they rarely give the kind of support you are looking for. This season, however, you will find many flat shoes that are inspired by the world of ballet but have the support of a regular shoe. Look at Prada Sport, Cole Haan, Burberry, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Tod's. The best bet is to try them on and walk around in them for a while in the shoe store before buying them and make sure you speak to a good shoe sales associate who will steer you in the direction of a well-constructed ballet flat. You can also go to a shoe repair store and buy an insole to put into each shoe."
