Stylin' hair: 4 of this summer's hottest trends.

Just like fashion, your hair needs a switch come summertime. Take a cue from the spring runways and copy looks that are sexy, edgy and fun with these do-it-yourself tips.

By Jennifer Weatherhead

Spring is in the air -- and with that out comes our espadrilles, floaty skirts, sexy tanks and brightly coloured accessories. But don't think that your spring updates stop there -- your locks can carry some of the best trends off the runway and be your hottest accessory. We enlisted the help of Terry Ritcey, director of education for Redken, for tips on how to create four of the hottest spring runway hair looks in front of your own mirror -- and it's not as hard as you may think!

The look: Disheveled Nix the flat iron and shine spray. The disheveled look is back and instead of going for the bed-head look that Jennifer Aniston once sported that was still heavily styled, let your natural hair texture come through. "In a sense it's a very natural innocence about the hair," explains Ritcey. "Very untouched, undone looking. It should either have a very matte and rough finish to it, or a bit more shine if you want a straight-from-the-beach look." Try a drop of anti-frizz serum to keep your hair from reacting to the humidity. "It's the easiest and perfect look to do at home for people with medium to long hair -- especially if you have a natural wave."
What you need: A matte texturizer like Redken's Rough Clay to give an instant chunky and dense look to your hair. For a beach look, opt for a waving gel like Redken's Elastic Works for wind-swept waves.
How to get it: Wash your hair and then let it dry naturally. "Even avoid combing it," says Ritcey. "The more you manipulate it when it's wet the more natural wave and texture you lose in your hair." Do a light comb through with your fingers to release any tangles if need be. Rub a very small amount of gel or texturizer in your hands and squeeze it through your hair to give chunky definition and you're good to go.

The look: Chic ponytail and bun Don't even think of loosely throwing your hair back in a bun or ponytail at the office this summer. This season it's all about the hair being pulled very tightly back from the face. The look ranges from high and low ponytails to sleek and perfectly manicured buns, all the way to messy buns. "It's very chic but easy to accomplish," says Ritcey.
What you need: Some super shine spray to make your hair look smooth, sleek and healthy. Try Redken's Satin Wear Ultimate Blow Dry Lotion and Glass Smoothing Serum to fix any fly-aways.
How to get it: Blow dry your hair with a round brush to create smooth, soft hair using the Satin Wear Blow Dry Lotion, pulling it away from the face as you dry. Pull the hair back tightly into a ponytail or bun, using the Glass Serum to create shine and eliminate frizz. For a messy look, pull pieces out of the bun and rub a bit of texturizer in the ends sticking out for more definition. Perfect for the office and chic enough for a night out with the girls.
