What is it?
Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Body MicroDermabrasion System (image at left), a professional-level skin-care treatment for home use.

What does it do?
Similar to the MicroDermabrasion System for the face, this kit uses slightly-larger-cut crystals for deeper -- but still gentle -- exfoliation on the rest of the body. It diminishes the appearance of age spots and wrinkles, refreshes skin tone and buffs away dry patches.

How does it work?
The kit contains a Body Resurfacing Cream and an applicator with a foam-sponge head for delicate, larger surface areas and a rougher polishing head for the feet. The applicator buffs the skin with a formula containing antioxidants such as vitamin E, moisturizing botanical extracts like safflower-seed oil and exfoliating aluminum-oxide crystals. The ingredients work together to enhance surface cell turnover, revealing new, healthier-looking skin. One use will soften dry patches, and a week's worth of daily scrubs will even out texture and clarity-but ex-pect to complete a four-week cycle to see improvements like lightened age spots.

Ask a derm
Q I'm pale in the winter, so the dark circles under my eyes are more prominent. How can I make them less noticeable?

A "Sleep on a couple of pillows, eat well and don't overindulge in alcohol," says Dr. Lisa Kellett of DLK On Avenue (www.dlkonavenue.com). "The skin under the eyes is so thin that retained water will accumulate there and make it appear puffy. The darkness is usually due to veins under the eyes being close to the skin. Because the skin is thin, it looks translucent and you see the veins. Topical creams are not very helpful; you're better off with a concealer. A good derm treatment is to inject fat or Restylane along the orbital bone. This lifts the skin away from the veins so they are less noticeable."
