 | Ask a derm Q. We know that we are what we eat, but what are the best supplements and vitamins to take for radiant-looking skin?
A. "Vitamins A, C, D and E are important in helping the skin fight off problems like acne and psoriasis," says Dr. Lisa Kellett of DLK On Avenue (www.dlkonavenue.com). "Vitamins C and E also help protect skin cells from free-radical damage. Vitamin A helps to treat skin that has been damaged by chronic sun exposure and promotes skin, hair and eye development. Vitamin B-including biotin-is great for the health of nails and hair. Basically, all vitamins contribute to skin -- and full body -- health, so the best solution is to take a daily multivitamin."

 | Pollution solution What is it? Clarins Expertise 3P Screen Mist, $38 (image at left) What does it do? The spray creates a barrier that protects the skin from environmental pollutants, such as smog, as well as electromagnetic waves generated by communications equipment like cellphones. How does it work? Clarins' laboratories subjected isolated skin cells to 900 megahertz -- the frequency most commonly used for communications transmissions -- and noted that the skin's natural protective barrier was weakened. The company created the rosemary-scented mist with two complexes that work together to reinforce the skin and protect it from environmental damage. The Magnetic Defense Complex contains extract of Rhodiola rosea-a hardy plant found in Siberia and the Arctic-and molecules of a resilient marine micro-organism called Thermus thermophilus. The Anti-Pollution Complex is made of white tea (a powerful antioxidant that boosts skin tolerance), succory dock-cress (a plant known for its skin-soothing properties) and Glycofilm, a sugar-based substance that acts as a screen against the effects of pollution. | | SPLURGE VS.
